Who's Behind the Southside Works Career Fair

Southside Works is an Atlanta workforce collaborative focused on connecting south side residents with training and jobs, and it has been running career fairs at Pittsburgh Yards since 2023. The fairs started small. When the Annie E. Casey Foundation profiled them in early 2024, the first fair had drawn about 30 people and the second about 60. The group now runs a spring and a fall edition; the most recent one was in May.

The venue itself is part of the story. Pittsburgh Yards is a 31-acre redevelopment on land the Casey Foundation bought in 2006, built to bring jobs and small businesses back to the Pittsburgh, Mechanicsville and Peoplestown neighborhoods. A career fair there is the place doing exactly what it was built for.

💼 What Employers Are Recruiting For

The organizer's listing says employers will come from technology, healthcare, finance and other industries, with representatives talking through open positions, internships and career paths. Southside Works has not published an employer roster for this date, so we can't tell you which companies will have tables. Plan to talk about what you can do rather than walking in with a single target.

On pay, one data point worth knowing: in that 2024 profile, organizers emphasized jobs starting at $20 an hour. That was the earlier fairs' pitch, not a promise about this one, so ask each recruiter directly about starting pay.

At the spring fair, Southside Works also shared information on no-cost training in fields like technology and logistics. If you are not job-ready in the field you want, that table may be the most useful one in the room.

📋 How to Show Up Ready

  • Register ahead on Eventbrite. It is free and gets you any updates the organizer sends.
  • Bring several printed copies of your resume. The organizer asks for this specifically.
  • Dress professionally.
  • Have a 30-second introduction ready: what you have done, what you want next.
  • Write down recruiter names and follow up within two days.

Three hours goes fast. Get there close to 10:00 a.m. if you want unhurried conversations.
